machines cant feel anything so how can they make art. its just stealing patterns from real people who actually worked for years to get good. garbage tech.

There is no art if it is made without a heart. No environment destroying, art stealing, generative AI could possibly do what a human artist can and should never be utilized in their place. Full stop, ever.

Even when you take away the environmental concerns, the art theft required to train AI models, and the dangers to your brain health, AI still has no place in creative spaces. Creating art has always been a way to communicate from one person (or group of people) to an audience. The implication is that there is something that needs to be expressed through specific artistic mediums to create a feeling of connection between the artist and the audience. Using AI, which currently can’t be used ethically and is facing several lawsuits regarding the artistic theft it requires to be functional, feels almost insulting to both the artist and the audience. If someone can’t be bothered to write/paint/act/sing something from themselves, why would I bother to engage with it? It’s in the struggle to express a theme or message that makes the art worth not just creating but viewing. I actively will stop engaging with art when I find out it’s even AI-modified (beyond the basics that we’ve had for decades that include things like spell check and clippy) because the lack of transparency in how the companies train their AI programs means you’re always taking a chance that they’ve built a tool on stolen art. Allowing artists of all mediums to be usurped by creators who can’t be bothered to take the time to craft/revise/integrate new ideas to create a work they can show off is worth less than the materials it cost to create it. It’s in the challenge of struggling to create art that often makes the most impactful pieces. If an artist so desperately wants a computer to do the heavy lifting of creating art that they can show off, I’d suggest hosting a movie night where they can take artistic credit for being able to operate the Blu Ray player.
