Since the end of April, early May I have been without my Facebook account I created 3.5 years ago. I deactivated my old account for several reasons including abuse, family issues, and due to my profession. As a social worker it is not in my best interests to use my real name as clients can become extremely disgruntle. I had an abuse ex that used Facebook as a means to attack me. I deactivated Facebook and started a new life. Nearly 4 years later I was on my first cross globe adventure and was convinced to sign up for Facebook again to keep in contact with the people I was meeting. I created it using my new identity which is Vanessa Meow. I have been using this account for over three years and randomly unexpectedly Facebook deactivated my account and told me I had to change my name to my legal birth name. As an open and active member of the LGBQT community, and a Social Worker I am completely against Facebook forcing people to change their names to something they don’t identify with anymore. They have continued to harass me, deny me access, and send the same generic response for around 5 months now. I have finally decided to start this petition to see if I can get enough support to get my account back.
