Working in the glass industry, I've seen firsthand the positive impact of sustainable packaging solutions on both the environment and the economy. However, recent actions threaten to undermine these efforts with the Environmental Protection Regulation (EPR) tax, and an alarming shift back towards plastic packaging.

The EPR tax was introduced with the intention of holding companies accountable for the waste they produce, ostensibly promoting recycling and the use of more sustainable materials. But in practice, it places undue financial strain on businesses that are making conscious efforts to use sustainable materials like glass. Glass is infinitely recyclable, making it a superior option compared to plastic, yet it's at risk of being financially outcompeted due to the tax burden.

Additionally, with some companies returning to the cheaper option of plastic packaging in response to these financial pressures, we're jeopardizing our planet's health. Plastic pollution is a global crisis, with over 8 million tons entering the oceans each year. By supporting glass packaging, we can help reduce this environmentally damaging cycle.

We must urge the government to reconsider the EPR tax structure to encourage the use of more environmentally friendly materials and penalize the return to plastic packaging. Beyond just the penalties, incentives should be provided to those companies already using or converting to sustainable options like glass.

Join me in this crucial initiative to protect industries promoting sustainability and to prevent further environmental degradation. Sign this petition to demand a reevaluation of the EPR tax and to push for a future that favors glass over plastic.
