Shark poaching has increased dramatically since 1997 because of peoples popular demands for shark fin soup and traditional cures. Especially in China. Study's show that around 26 - 73 million sharks are harvested yearly for shark fin soup and other requirements, and the way that they get the meat is so barbaric that it will make you sick to your stomach. The fishers pull the sharks up cut their fins of and then they throw the sharks, finless, back into the water. The problem with that is now the sharks can no longer swim so they sink to the bottom of the ocean and either suffocate or get eaten by other predators. You guys are probably thinking we live on land why do we care? You care because 71% of the earth is water and scientists have found around 240,000 marine species, and sharks have been one of the top predators for over 400,000,000 years if they go extinct imagine the massive effect it would have on the ecosystem.
