Warehousing homeless people does not help them. We must provide affordable housing, jobs, education, stores and health center. Warehousing people would just make them wander the streets without a purpose, making residents uncomfortable and inviting crime.

It baffles me as to how the City gov't can honestly believe that it is acceptable to increase the burden on a community with limited public transportation accessibility, insufficient medical resources, increased flood risk ( historically w/ difficulties with evacuation), struggling school system ( esp. elementary and middle school), and limited job availability by placing a homeless shelter in the Rockaways. The Rockaways has been NYC'S "dumping" ground for projects no other area would allow. I understand the importance of helping your fellow man. However be fair and considerate to all NYC residents and distribute the responsibility evenly throughout the city.

I grew up in Rockaway Beach, the location of the planned homeless shelter is unacceptable. There are many K-8 schools within half a mile of the area.

Does anyone ever drive through Rockaway on the way to the Long Beach bridge? Ever see the wasteland that's become of Far Rockaway? THAT'S the result of government housing programs being forced on Rockaway. Beautiful waterfront property that is no more than a garbage dump.

Let's start with common sense. Rockaway is full of great hard working families with the kind of class people should strive to be. Helping out neighbors and people that deserve help bc they help themselves in the process. Give us hardworking individuals that want to better their lives and we will give you the hand & help needed. But not the disgraced, entitled, and repeat offenders that refuse to make even the smallest step in helping themselves. Shameful and disgraceful to even think about putting into place like that on 101 street with children and schools seconds away. Shame on you for even suggesting such a thing.
