I was a single mum, in a council house, working-class - there was no way I could afford to audition at more than one school. I gave up and sought my own way into the industry. It needs to be more accessible. I fully support this petition.

It’s the first of many barriers to talent from less privileged backgrounds getting in to the industry. You can pay £80 to be seen for 10 minutes and not even get feedback with your rejection.

I couldn’t afford to audition for drama school as travel to London plus audition fees would have cost at least £60 per school. As a 17 year old from a low income family, £600-£1000 to audition for perhaps 10 schools was impossible.

We need to eradicate as many barriers as possible for all people entering the arts and creative industries. We are missing out on so much talent (because of costs such as this) who will ultimately make our culture stronger and more vibrant.

I was paying £30 per audition (4/5) in 2003 and it was just one year either. I'm shocked how the price has risen. Though seriously no one should be paying anything full stop. Its just another way for schools to cash in.
