The city of San Francisco is continuing to place unnecessary hardship to the residents and merchants of the Haight Ashbury district with years of construction marred by incompetence by the city and the contractor. This project should have been over and done with by now except for the inability of the city and contractor being unable to find gas lines and continuing to hit one line after another up and down our block, threatening to blow us all sky high. It's a joke that isn't funny.
We aren't saying that they need to abandon the project. The work on our infrastructure needs to be done. It just doesn't have to be this summer but can wait until 2018 when, by the way, not only will this project be finished but we are faced with another 2 year long business killing project on Haight from Ashbury to Stanyan St. They have agreed to wait until 2018 to start that mess So they might as well wait until then to do this work at the same time. That way, while they are going to be tearing up our neighborhood again, it will only be once not twice.
As a fourth generation native San Franciscan and a third generation small business owner in this spectacular city, I implore you to sign our petition and let us have our Summer of Love 50th Anniversary celebrations to show the world what started HERE 50 years ago and changed the world forever. We can't let our city have a proper celebration in the middle of all the tumult caused by a project of this size.

Construction on the haight has been crazy for years now. I can not understand why the city would want to hurt this historic area of San Francisco. Its like you are trying to kill what you city was made around. Well the fact is no matter how you try to change the haight. The history can never be erased and the community that is here will not allow the haight st. Spirit to die. One last thing doesnt make much sense to put construction in the middle of a historic anniversary of you city now that cant look good for tourism in San Francisco period.

Loved To Death and LTD also demand that the city keep the agreement we worked in meeting for almost a year. You can't go back on your word to the Upper Haight Merchants and expect us to expect reimbursement for lost wages. Remember, you made an agreement and we then made plans around it. We have monthly in shop events that are centered around the Summer of Love scheduled as well. We ask the city to please honor its agreement made with Haight Street Merchants, in writing.
