Stop Dangerous Accidents at SC11 & New Hope Road
For years now, neighbors witnessed a continuous stream of tragic, life-altering and deadly accidents at the New Hope Road intersection on SC Scenic Highway 11.
Please SIGN and SHARE this petition so we can pass it along to the SC DOT officials
reviewing improving this situation.
The Appalachian Council of Governments is discussing this intersection based upon a strong uptick of accidents in 22 & 23.
SCDOT District Three has currently denied any sort of mitigation, not even Stop signs on 11 based on the following statement the DOT has made, "A recent Study was performed on the Intersection, and it was determined that an All Way Stop, or Traffic Signal was not warranted at that time. The traffic volumes on SC-11 far exceed those on the side roads, therefore not meeting the necessary warrants for stopping it. Due to the high volumes, and high speeds on SC-11; stopping it at this location would likely cause increased crashes from rear ends, and vehicles running the stop signs. As part of the Study, we reviewed three years' worth of accidents here. The majority of the accidents were from people either crossing SC-11 between the three side roads, or simply pulling out onto SC-11 from one of them. Others were caused from people passing, in the no passing zone. Because of this, the SCDOT meet with Pickens County to discuss further ways to address the "odd" five legged intersection. Because and All Way Stop was not warranted; the SCDOT recommended that Country Creek, which is a County Road (not State), be closed off, or made an entrance only; so that the intersection would only be a four legged intersection. This would cut down on the confusion between the three side road movements from County Creek, Saluda, and New Hope; when turning on and off of SC-11."

This portal can be used for ANY road related repair or improvements anywhere in the State. There are some bugs in the workflow, repairs are handles by this system, but a database bug closes out Improvement requests. So do follow up with a phone call to the state DOT I Columbia and make sure they assign the request to the correct system. Otherwise it will not have any impact or be acted upon. I was made aware of this problem 3 weeks ago. They do not have an expectation of when this malfunction will ever be resolved, but they do acknowledge the problem and offer to manually correct any submissions you make.
