Over the past two years, Crime Stoppers has grown into an epidemic at Georgetown High School. It is a program where students can anonymously submit a tip about another student and get paid in return. This student snitching on student concept has created a hostile environment here at school. It has also created an atmosphere where students feel like faculty treat them like guilty until proven innocent, as opposed to the constitutional other way around. The student body respects the consequences for breaking any school rule, but we must feel like our teachers/administrators want the best for us and don't seek to get us in trouble. Furthermore, if a student gets accused of snitching, they practically get cyber bullied on social media, whether they were the informant or not.

Instead of this crime stoppers program, I would love to see a different program in place that is devoted to making our school a safer place. Some ideas of mine include a tip line for the following: violence at school, weapons at school, terroristic activity, domestic violence/child abuse at home, depression/suicidal thoughts, and bullying.

If this program is kept in place, an informing letter should go home to all GHS parents so that they are versed on what this program entails for their children
