Lets stick the good old ways of teaching. It shouldn't take 56 seconds for a teacher to explain 9 + 6.

If Common Core is soooo wonderful? Why are parents left out of the loop? Why does almost no one know what it is? Why wasn't it brought before Congress and voted on? Why were the states basically black mailed into accepting something they could not evaluate while being blackmailed?

My son is now in 3rd grade. Thus far in his education all his teachers have been elated with his understanding and progression in math. He has always had an A or higher in math. This year I have been shocked to see the grades he brings home on his math assignments and test. He IS an has always been a very smart kid and picks up on things quickly. Common core math is ruining his way of thinking on how to solve a simple math problem. We have got to make changes to the common core system or get rid of it for good. Just a thought. Kids don't all learn the same... giving them options to solve a math problem is great, but marking a problem wrong just because they did it in fewer steps than "common core" feels is necessary is ridiculous! Lets let our kids be smart as they all are and teach them in a way that they will learn and succeed. Get rid of Common Core!

Common Core is the most ridiculous thing I have seen being shipped down our throats for federal money.. Federal money that certainly lined the wrong pockets. Fix the broken things people.. DO NOT BREAK THE FIXED THINGS!

I will have a child in kindergarten next year, and am worried he will be brainwashed by the common core/corporate based program. I want the interest of the KIDS to be a priority, not who is benefiting financially off of a school program Thanks

4 questions: 1: Is common core math faster? 2: is common core math more accurate? 3: Is common core easier to teach and for children to understand? 4: Are the children in those nations who are out performing our children in math using common core? Answer NO to all 4. So can someone please explain to me why we are allowing them to teach our children in this way? If you want to fix education you look at those nations who are doing better than us and see if any of it can be implemented easily in our schools, not try to re-invent the wheel.

Bonner County. My 7th grade, honor role student needed help on her math one day. After showing her how to go about finding a,b, and c, to solve for x, she explained that that wasn't how they did it in class, but she didn't know how it was sappose to be solved for her teachers standards. Thinking that as long as the answer was correct, and her work was shown, she was ok. I was wrong. Every problem was incorrect, not the answer itself, but how we came to the answer. Was this a joke? How are parents sappose to help their kids learn how to 'solve' a specific way when it isn't how we were taught up till a couple years ago? I work full time, I do not have the time to take a class, along with my children, so I can help them with their homework simply because the state decided to make the decision to incorporate a system that requires almost a page to solve the problem, and doesn't allow them to learn to solve in their head without penalty.
