Stop Co-Location of Charter Schools On Short Avenue Elementary Campus

No charter school!! It will hurt our children because it would take classes away from them. Special projects will be no more! It will teach our kids to be separated not one school!!

We don't need a charter school to crowd our community school!

Hi I'm one of the parents of Short Ave. Elementary School and I would like to keep it in the good direction as public school, THANK YOU!

I am a resident in the neighborhood and our area is already so congested that adding a co-location charter school does not make sense. Short avenue is too small of a campus to make this work. This is not an effective solution.

Co-location is a significantly disruptive and damaging process for the home school; certainly an unintended consequence of prop 39. We would lose: the dedicated art studio, Latin classroom, science lab, parent center, after school rooms, secondary computer lab, the primary computer lab would most likely need to be shared as well as the cafeteria area, library, and the play yard. We would not be able to continue teaching our children 21st century technology skills with the incredible Planet Bravo, as they need a dedicated classroom. Planet Bravo's curriculum will have a positive impact on all students as they not only learn technology and how to type, but are able to type for content without concern for locating the correct keys to spell words, which will impact state testing. We will be deprived of our right to bring a much anticipated arts education program to our students because Adopt the Arts needs a dedicated class room. Our connection to parent engagement and fundraising will be compromised without a room to gather and work in and house a library of parent and education resources. As our school continues to grow, we will *not* be able to use our own rooms; we would have to turn students away, even if this was their home school. We are on a growth trajectory as our larger classrooms attest to and taking classrooms undermines our ability to grow. We would also not be able to compete effectively as a STEAM focused school in the absence of a technology program. Removing Planet Bravo and disallowing Adopt the Arts from our school is a huge disservice to our students and the reputation of our school. We are opposed to the pernicious effects to home schools caused by co-location.

I worked at Short Ave for 24 years. Such a beautiful enviroment. The staff is the best and the families amazing. It would be ashame to change anything!!

I have worked at a school with co-location. It is almost always bad for the local public school students. They lose needed spaces for services such as speech therapy and computer labs.

This is happening at Palms elementary school also. Not enough space or resources to coexist successfully.

Co-location rarely benefits the community school. Short Avenue is a wonderful school.

Education like health should not be for profit.

Please oppose the co-location of charter schools at Short Avenue. We cannot afford to take resources away from our kids.

Please find another site for CWC. Taking away nine classrooms will unravel the hard work that this community has done to build this school up. These nine classrooms are NOT empty - they are essential to the academic and cultural life of this amazing neighborhood school.
