In addition to illegal dirt bikes and many other quality of life issues, residents of New Haven face a new challenge: cars with exhaust systems modified to simulate the sounds of gun fire. Besides disturbing the peace and quiet of law abiding residents, these drivers divert valuable and increasingly scarce resources from the NHPD. Estimates are that about 50% of the time the NHPD is dispatched to a shots-fired call, the source of the noise is actually one of these cars with an illegally modified exhaust system. The public has had enough.
Please join me in demanding that Mayor Elicker and the Board of Alders provide the funding and support necessary so the NHPD can put an end to the madness.

These automobiles could also be used as a decoy to stop police officers from going to an actual shooting. “ false alarms“ hinder the police from doing an effective job.
Please let’s put an end to this. Put up jersey walls on all of the streets that they race in and mount them. That’s not rocket science. Put an end to this now not continue to let innocent people suffer injury or death. Ridiculous that there has been no lasting solution to this.
Perhaps citizens could report the license # and description of the cars to the police. I don't know if it would do any good though.
Racing is illegal, has caused crashes, leads at times to arguments involving gunfire, and are a COVID spreading risk with so many unmasked and close drivers and spectators
What a nuisance can we have our legislators creat a bill and investigate if we have something on the books already, I am sure this is effecting other towns and cities.
This needs to be dealt with effectively before somebody gets killed.
Loud, illegal exhaust pipe modifications are a blight on our town. I don't know what the solution is, but the noise pollution they cause has to be eliminated!

Loud exhaust mufflers of this type and just generally too loud need to be banned. I think it could be incorporated into the exhaust emissions test that all vehicles must pass.
