These are my neighbors, I have never saw this dog outside unattended or without a leash. Further more I have been inside their house around the dog who is very mild mannered even with three young children, during birthday parties, I have my own dog which I’m sure the dog can smell on me, so if it were it were viscous or even mean I think I would have had some indication of that in the past three years they have been my neighbours. The owners take very good care of the dog and are extremely careful that it is never unattended In public or around children, not because the dog is bad or dangerous but because of the stigma associated with the way the dog looks. I find it extremely unfair to these owners who have been so good and careful with their animal while others (myself included) have pets who are able to roam around and never have anyone bother us. I could see if the dog had done something to provoke being reported but it hasn’t, it has been with its owners for 9 years and never had an incident and were unaware of the bylaw at the time they moved here. The dog is part of their family, they have small children who are attached to the animal and life expectancy of this breed means it will only have a few more years of life anyways. The benefit of allowing this animal to stay with its family far outweighs the risk to the residents of the municipality. I find it extremely cruel of the MODG to try and take this animal away from its family considering all the factors at play and especially considering that the dog is guilty of nothing but being born a certain breed that gives it a bad reputation.

the fact that in 2018 this bylaw still exists is disgusting. breed has nothing to do with a dog being vicious. personally i've been bitten more by small dogs than i have the big "dangerous" ones.

As a new home owner in Guysborough County I was horrified to learn that this county was only one of two places in Nova Scotia that has Breed Specific Legislation. It is ineffective, discriminatory and wrong. Other models promoting responsible pet ownership and being adopted all over the country and are working. Calgarys bylaws are an excellent example and Montreals newer decision to not adopt BSL based on statistics show that there are other methods of dog control that work.

People got to educate them selves on dogs ... nothing is wrong with them dogs .. its the way the dog is raised , no different then a lab or a boxer or a shih tzu or a kid .. it's the environment of how its raised . Them little yappy dogs are more prone to bite then any other .. its plan and simple ingnorance .

The idea of segregating a breed is mind blowing .. Dogs are not only pets but family members..To ban a breed is no different then banning a race ..

Dog ownership is for responsible people. The owner of any breed of dog or animal for that matter should bear the direct responsibility of owning said animal and should be able to maintain such animal with care and due diligence as part of their ownership.

Its not about the breed, its about the training and upbringing of the animal that makes the animal who they are! Looks dont matter. All humans are supposedly ‘equal’ pets/animals should be too!
