To add to my previous comment... the time frame they gave this family to find a new home for their best friend is ridiculous as well. I’ve rehomed animals before and never have I found a suitable home in 4 days

Jurisdictions around the world have recognized that breed specific by-laws do not work and are inappropriate. Get with the times! This is not a good look for Nova Scotia.

I have spent years rescuing and caring for pit bull type dogs with never an issue. They are wonderful, caring, loyal family pets and removing a dog from its family is ridiculous.

Breed specific legislation has been proven time and again to be ineffective and unfair. Many of your constituents would also fail a DNA test based on possible negative outcomes, but you don't selectively remove people from your county.

I honestly have no idea how this bylaw was passed. You are asking these people to get rid of a member of their family who they have owned FOR 9 YEARS. Dogs are the product of their environment, if you raise them to be gentle and sweet they will be... if you raise them to be vicious and protective, they will be... it has very little to do with the breed. This 9 year old pit bull obviously has been raised to be gentle. I’ve owned and fostered dogs for years and have been around my fair share of pit bulls/ bully type dogs. I’ve also been bit and attacked by a dog... that dog was a purebred golden retriever. It is discrimination and stereotyping to state that all pitbulls are likely to become vicious, the same way that it is to say that all white girls like Starbucks and listen to rap or that all Asians are good at math. Today, there is no room for this sort of discrimination and it is totally disrespectful and inappropriate to do so. If you have to have a rule, please revise it to not pick on a certain breed but rather dogs who have exhibited vicious tendencies in the past. These wonderful pitbulls don’t deserve to be kicked out of their homes with the families that love them just because they are a pitbulls.

This is such a sad situation! You can’t take this dog from it’s family, it’s their furbaby and hasn’t done anything wrong. Every canine has the potential to bite or knock someone over even yet when it hasn’t in 9 years the potential is basically BS.

This needs to be changed.. DNA not good enough. If they are that concerned then see the dog within its environment , test the dogs reactions. Not just because blood says he could be aggressive..
