Stop Beautification Project $97k Spending until Economic Recovery

A Beautification Project sounds great, especially in such a wonderful place as Moscow. But it would be extremely sad to walk round an even prettier town in a few months that was marred by the absence of its residents' favorite businesses. Please don't spend money on non-essentials when, currently, non-essential businesses aren't even allowed to function!

To proceed with this project given the current economic environment would be irresponsible and an egregious waste of Moscow's money.

Please don’t burden people who are already carrying heavy weights in their hearts from their less-than-ideal financial situations.

I'm all for beauty, but this is not the time. The money for the art project could be so much better spent. Please work to relieve others who are in financial distress because of this situation.

The Council has demanded that the citizenry comply with the illicit demands of all of the agents who have violated the State (and Federal) constitutions and have thereby caused irreparable damage to the members of our community by unlawful dictates, and by gross negligence of their obligations to both the State and Federal constitutions, and especially shown a reprehensible attitude towards the businesses and workers of the area. Let's get this show back on the road and quit the games. People in Latah County and Moscow need to get back to work before we are forced to deal with consequences that will make these recently passed days seem like a picnic.

What's "non-essential" mean?

As nice as a beautification project might be, it is a bit of a luxury. This is not the time to be spending public money on luxuries. Please use this money responsibly in a way that helps Moscow during this particular time.

This expenditure is foolish and irresponsible given our current economic situation. If you forcibly close businesses you deem are "non-essential" then you have no business spending the tax dollars of those impacted people on non-essential projects.

Please listen to those hurting in the community and extend help where needed most.

Moscow is facing an unprecedented financial crisis, a double wave from "stay at home" orders and cancelled University activities. Our local hospitals and businesses are already sounding the alarm. We call on the City Council to proactively protect our city by deferring all "non-essential" financial transactions.

Essentials ONLY! How can these funds be spent in good conscience on a project like this when our small businesses are on the verge of failing? Use the funds to pay for tax breaks!

How can you all be so insensitive to the hard working people of Moscow that are on the verge of financial ruin because of your harsh edicts over this supposed ‘pandemic’? Show me the deaths and crowded hospitals from our citizens infected with this supposed virus. How can you even consider a spending proposition to beautify our city when there are sooo many fighting for their lives right now?? How do you sleep at night? I’m so sad that it has come to this where you are showing your true colors, loyalties, disregard for the people that voted you into your position? Would you teach this kind of thinking to your children? Would you want to pass this kind of spending decisions on to your children and grandchildren? I don’t understand. I’m trying. Please show us all that you are better than this. I would like a response to my questions please and before tomorrow’s City Council meeting. Thank you.
