I feel that animals should not be used as test subjects for scientific experiments. Why do people experiment on animals? Could it be because it’s a learning system to know how their bodies work? Yet, it could also be because they thought it might be a funny joke so they cut and animal open, play around with their insides, and then throw them away. Could you just sit there and listen to the T.V. or people tell you how many animals were experimented on and killed that year? Well, I couldn’t and furthermore I think it should be put to a stop. People shouldn’t use animals as test subjects because it’s cruel, too many are being tested and killed, and the testing is not trustworthy. Obviously millions of people believe that animal experimentation is cruel. If the people of the United States are free then why can’t animals be free? Animals suffer through extreme pain before they are killed, dissected, and thrown away like their nothing. In addition, animals are forced to eat, breath, or are injected with toxic substances like gasoline of mercury components. Although more than 1,000 companies have banned all animal tests forever, some corporations still put chemicals in animals bodies and drip chemicals into their eyes even though they’re not required by law. Medical journals have shown that from time to time, animal experiments are wasting lives. Meanwhile, when all of these animals are being tested, how many do you think survive? Hundreds of thousands of animals are poisoned, blinded, and killed every year in out-dated cosmetic, personal care, house cleaning, and even fruit juice experiments. Research shows that in 2004: 1,101,958 animals, (not including the millions of rats) were tested on in that year. In 1990-1997, USDA reported killing 12,895,885 animals and rodents. On June 8, 2004, ALDF was challenged to an EPA program exposing millions of animals to toxic substances. Extensive testing of nearly 1.2 million animals could be used for test subjects for every 1,000 chemicals EPA analyzes. Joyce Tischler, founder and general of ALDF says “At the moment 20 million animals are being used as test subjects every year. This program will times that figure by four and we can’t just stand by and let that happen.” PETA is also an organization made up to prevent animal testing. Generally speaking, scientists that experiment on animals are not trustworthy and often produce incorrect results. For example, USDA reports that over 57,000 primates were used in labs but, actually that could be more like 120,000. Did you know that humans and animals don’t get the same diseases? Therefore, animal research focuses on artificially inducing and treating symptoms of human cancer. Some experimental drugs that they use effect animals but don’t affect humans. Therefore, a product could have blinded and animal but still be marketed to you. So, please read the label on the things you buy. Someone might say that animal experimentation could be a good thing if it saves lives. Well, as stated before humans and animals don’t get the same diseases so what’s the point? And even if it could save a life, animal testing can be replaced with smarter, more accurate, less expensive and NON-ANIMAL alternatives! When it all comes together, animal experimentation is wrong and should be put to a stop.
