I have a family history of mental illness. Both my son and my brother died as a result of suicide. Last year I was dignosed with bipolar disorder by both my family dr, as well as not one but two mental health professionals. In after having had many medical and personal issues going on in my life, I have survived cancer, the death of my son and after a year of one personal disaster after another I hit rock bottom in November. On November 28th My doctor took me off work and started working with me to find the proper meds to help me. Instead of being able to take the time to rest let the meds do their thing, and get better, I spend day after day trying to get Aetna to approve my disability claim. I ask you, would you want a mentally unstable person at your job who can't function without crying and losing all control because they are not on the proper meds to treat their issues? I am actually WORSE than I was when this all started and now may lose everything if I can't get my claim approved for long enough to get better.. I have been paying for these benefits for nine years!!! Please sign my petition if you believe that the doctors should be makjng the decisions on whether or not you have a disability that should be covered....NOT the company who has to pay the claim itself....because if they get to choose, thy can take your premiums and leave you hanging with no support whatsoever...just when you need them the most. Mind you a while back when I had gallbladder surgery they relied on the same doctor to provide dates that I needed to be off and never had an issue. Sign my petition if you think the Aetna should stop discriminating against people with mental health issues.
