Animal sacrifice banned during Nepal festival

Gadhimai festivalis a month-longHindufestival that is held every five years at the Gadhimai temple ofBariyarpur, inBara District, about 100 miles (160km) south of the capitalKathmanduin southernNepal, near the Indo-Nepal border by mostly bordering Indians and Madheshi people. The event involves the world's largestsacrificial slaughter of animals(approx. 300,000 - 500,000 as of last event)in 2009 includingwater buffaloes, pigs, goats, chicken, rats, and pigeons – with the goal of pleasingGadhimai, thegoddessof power.

Iam a Hindu and no sacred Hindu text be it Gita,upanishads and all other vedas mention about animal sacrifice and the cows andBuffaloes are equivalent to our Mothers.
