Stop the Potential spreading of the Novel coronavirus in schools of York Region, Ontario

According to center and global development, school closure can be an effective measure to contain the spread of influenza. Although school closure is not even being take into consideration by the government, i do suggest that people who have traveled internationally especially to Asia, should be granted a dismiss from school for minimum of 17 days. This is to maintain a secure environment, and avoid taking any risks. This is beneficial for our society too. Taking three new confirmed cases of Carona virus into consideration in Toronto, Bringing Ontario total to 18, Schools have to start taking action for the sake of avoiding any risks.

I agree, this should be happening everywhere and news flash people it has NOTHING to do with racism!!!!! I don't care what colour your skin is, what your heritage is, if you have been to China, you should be self isolating for safety sake. As someone who has an aumtoimmune disorder I am absolutely disgusted with Canada and how they are handling all this and the ridiculous claims of "oh no, isolation is racism" no, its trying to make sure no one coming back from China is going to KILL people like ME who are immune compromised because you can't be bothered to make a logical safe precaution. Canada is the ONLY country being so utterly stupid and I am ashamed to be Canadian right now and its no wonder people are making fun of us because over sensitive morons are resorting to crying "racism" over ANYONE from ANY background being asked to self isolate if they came from China recently.

Based on the Health Officials Update today there are 62 symptomatic cases currently under investigation in Ontario. Some of those came from other parts of China and not Wuhan within the last 30 days. Why is it not a surprise?! Health Officials keep saying that we have asked people to isolate themselves and if they haven't isolated themselves then it's not their problem! How dare some people allow themselves to accept responsibilities to keep the public safe and all they do is talk?! Did they forget that many asians residing in Canada can't speak fluent english and may not understand english? Did they forget many of those people may need to run their own businesses to survive financially? How about those that don't have the symptoms or have mild symptoms and can't imagine to carry the virus? Obviously, they will go out to their normal routine! How do our public officials imagine asking travellers to isolate themselves is enough?! If they think asking travellers to self isolate would work then why do we have 62 symptomatic cases under investigation? All we are asking here is to respect the safety of Canada's children. Parents are responsible for their children otherwise underage children could have gone to doctor or hospital by themselves. So that's why parents are asking through this petition to respect their request before it's too late! Please provide online studies instead of attending to school for several weeks. This sounds more legit especially that it has been several months that schools have been on strike. The doctor from China who told public about the spread of this virus which has got arrested by Chinese officials, has been announced dead today. The ship was being held in Japan for 24 hours while Japanese health authorities assessed the 3,700 passengers and crew on board."

The principal and vice principal just ignored the concerns and health risks of the entire communities, students and teachers. Given the fact that they were aware of the returns of the China travelling kids after parents brought up the issues, they claimed that they could NOT STOP them from going to school.

Please watch CBC news -breaking news with Bonnie Henry (B.C. Provincial health officer) regarding a new case of coronavirus caused by human to human transmission. She seemed to be nervous and concerned as she mentioned that it seems that virus may not impact some young people to the intensity expected (not much fever or cough) while they can still pass the virus. She was suggesting to stay home for several weeks and stay away from crowds especially those visited Wuhan or had visited those came from that region. The question is how those already came to Canada from that region can financially survive for several weeks by staying at home as they may run their own business. What would be the assurance those who cannot survive financially to stay home for several weeks? I would suggest to reword the requests to provide online studies instead of attending to school for several weeks. This sounds more legit especially that it has been several months that schools have been on strike. Thank you!

Publick health issue, do not make it racist, which it is not. the virus did start in China and has been found having originated from the street market offering odd foods like Bats and snakes in the menu.

Sam, you pointed out that China has quarantined multiple cities with populations comparable to Canada, but you failed to point out the size comparison. Hubei province (~185,000 sq.km) has 58.5M people, that's 1.5X the population of all of Canada in an area 1/5 the size of Ontario (~1.07M sq.km), not Canada, Ontario. With 11,000+ infected in Hubei alone it makes sense to restrict travel to and from the region. As of now, all of Canada (~10M sq.km) has 4 that are confirmed as infected and they are isolated already so your argument is invalid.

Odd, isn't it? We have a plane full of people (I don't know ages) being flown home from China with a plan of them being quarantined (asymptomatic of virus or not), yet a parent petition ( https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/coronavirus-chinese-stigma-york-regional-school-board-1.5443128 ) asking for similar treatment for students is said to be unnecessary. It's somewhat contradictory. And, it's not like the quarantine for young children has to be "scary" or damaging; it can be accomplished without trauma. I'm not of Chinese descent, but if my child was coming back from hot spot areas of China, I wouldn't have to be told to keep my child home, nor would I be offended if asked to do so.

This petition sickens me to have to sign due to the poor protocols put in place. With having WHO declare this an international epidemic I would have thought we would be more ahead of this than we are. Utterly disturbed.

This is a right

It’s 58.5M people to be exact. That’s 1.5X the population of Canada in an area that’s 1/5 the size of the province of Ontario, not 1/5 the size of Canada, just Ontario, with 1400+ infected. So it makes sense for the Chinese government to restrict travel within the region. But as of now, Canada has 4 cases, once again, 4, less than the number of fingers I have on one hand, in all of Canada (~10M sq.km), and one has recovered. So quit acting like it’s World War Z and teach your children proper hygiene and get on with your life.
