My duo partner and I had to break up because of the change in the rules - the script we choose was too confusing with just one part of it, instead of the book AND movie.

Wow! Amazingly written petition that perfectly reflects my views.

Some of the best Stoa duos on record have either come from the freedom of creative speech or the ability to use colloquial references from our culture/daily life. The amount of children planning to compete in Duo has already dropped, and the pieces will be limited and less entertaining/moving for the competitors, judges, and audience.

I do believe that OIs and Duos have an inherent problem by being able to have anything and everything. It makes judging and comparing a handful of them nearly impossible without bringing in personal preference, rather than objective quality. That being said, removing the ability to write your own will in no way whatsoever solve that problem, and the method of removing it is somewhat troubling in a league like Stoa.

Very well-worded and gracious call for change. At the very least, such a drastic measure should have been put before Stoa for a vote. The Status Quo thwarts the democratic process and was a judgment issued on high from Mount Olympus. This was the very thing we as a league were trying to counteract when we left NCFCA. Please Stoa, listen to your constituency!

I made it to semifinals at nationals a year ago with an original duo of Monty Python's Flying Circus which allowed me to be myself and try out interps. I think had it not been for that duo, I would have dropped interps altogether. It saddens me to think of future STOA-ites losing this privilege.

Not an interper, but I think this rule change is wrong, similar to Broadcasting last year. Let's get this done, then do this again, but with Impromptu!

Making this new rule takes ALL the creativity out of duos. How are we to learn to write good speeches if we can only put in 150 words of our own?! This is the first year that I was competing in duo and I was REALLY exited until this rule came out! PLEASE return to the original format!

This decision seems pretty stifling to the creativity and joy that comes with original duos. Being able to create my own duo based on the story of Stephen (from Acts) a few years ago was really special, and I think that's an opportunity that younger competitors deserve.

I am a TP/parli parent. I strongly felt the change of DUO rule is unnecessary and harmful for the creativity to this event. Please reverse.

My son will be competing next year. After judging for several years, I've enjoyed the creativity of the duos. This rule stagnated any creativity behind original duos. The new rule allows kids to simply regurgitate small passages of literature through acting. There is nothing creative about this. I'm very disappointed that the board would make such a sweeping decision, for all participants, in a category that is enthusiastically embraced by so many creative minds. Please reconsider.

Basically, the removal of this is the only reason I've shied away from Duo. I'd love to see original Duos come back.

I believe that the claims of this petition are true, and that the rules of duo interp have been unfairly manipulated. I would respectfully request them to be reverted to get previous rules if originality.

I'm a Stoa member and strongly support this petition. The rule changes should have been an voting option for the 2016 Spring Stoa members. Please consider the preparation and time the students have already started preparing their duos. Blessings

As a Stoa alum who competed in duo four times, qualifying to the national level three times, I strongly support this petition for the sake of the integrity of the event.
