St. Michaels Catholic High School in Bolton, Ontario is scheduled to open in 2010. The high school was originally slotted to open in 2008, however due to delays regarding the land ownership for the proposed location of the high school, the opening date had to be delayed. The decision of which grades that would open the new high school were to be made at an appropriate time that would be closer to when the school was scheduled to open. As a community body engaged in years of meetings and steering decisions on this very important decision, we were told to wait to discuss this issue. In Feb 2009 a report will be presented to the Dufferin Peel Catholic School Board of Trustees by Mr. Frank DiCosola, Bolton’s area school trustee; which will state that quote -the school should open with only grade 9's and 10 students from the area-end quote. Mr. DiCosola advises that he -quote -cannot support having grade 11/senior students from Bolton attend the new St. Michael High School-end quote, and advises that he -quote -bases this decision by concerned area parents who will not be willing to be moved from their current location of R.F. Hall-end quote. Despite being present at area meetings for over 4 years regarding this very issue, an open forum has not been made available to the community where affected members of the community were invited to attend. The list of signatures below represent parents, students and community members which think it is appropriate before a decision be made that an open forum meeting be held, specifically with parents and students currently in grade 9/10 (who will be going into grade 11 /12 at time of opening St. Michael’s Catholic High School) and grade 7 and 8's and all those concerned in order to discuss and decide whether to include senior students from Bolton to be a part of St. Michael High School.
