Creation of this Stippend/Kinshiplaw will help grandparents and immediate family members who are raising children in their homes. If you have legal custody of children you are raising, youget no benefits from the state except Medicaid-no help with expenses such as groceries, school clothes, etc. If you don't have custody, you mayget somehelp with groceries if you qualify. When foster children are placed in foster homes, thestate helps with expenses. This is not the case if you get legal custody of children of family members. Family members care for these children because they are family and do not want these children in the foster care program, which in the state of Texas, is failing. Family members that care for these children are not aware and are not informed they will receive no help, but that is not why families take these children in.They love them. The state should really consider this law since it will help keep the state from funding children in the foster care systemand not having to shuffle them from home to home. There are several other states with similar laws on the books tohelp families in these situations, but currently, one such law does not exist in Texas. Please help pass this law. Please share this and/or tell your friends and family members about this petition. Even if you don't agree with it, please pass it on, or even post a link to it on your Facebook page, anything you can do to help get this petition signed. Thank you in advance for your help.
