I have been using Steam for a very long time now. I love it. It has a huge catalog of games and a great Interface.

However I am very agitated with the username and profile names. As I played around on the Steam UI, old profile names are uncontrollably visible, and Steam account names are not changeable at all.

This is upsetting compared to “Blizzard giving users a free shot at changing their usernames” (Vincent). On top of that, people in my class told me that just a few bucks let you change it again and again after the first time. I'm already aware of Xbox One letting usernames being changed at will all the time. Seriously, you need to up your game against the competition and do the same thing.

People want their usernames and profile names to be changed (and even forgotten by them and their friends forever) for so many reasons, and many of them are obvious. The name might be boring after a while (account names especially), the user thought of a better name (which is awfully too late for account names), etc. As for account names, many of us don't like logging in with it when we are using completely different profile names, and if there's 2 accounts with 1 profile, things will get confusing without the visibility of account names.

Since there are still ID codes associated with accounts, it shouldn't be any trouble with changing account names at all. As a suggestion for profile names, old names should have the option of being hidden, shown, or deleted completely.

By signing this petition you agree that Steam should offer the ability to change account names and allow the ability to alter the visibility or delete older profile names.
