This isn't a right thing to do to the community and will heavily screw over trade bots/trade websites.

Many people haven't got smartphones, this will ruin their Steam experience.

There's no way I could download the app, and even if I did, other traders more than likely won't want to bother with the app, and then we're stuck with my items being in hold for no other reason than people who don't secure their account complain when they lose stuff. Just strongly encourage 2 step authentication for an account, and don't punish the users who are keeping their account and all of their stuff safe.

I don't have a smartphone, thanks a lot for harassing me VALVE! You already restricted trading so much, now you want to kill it completely or what? And don't even try to justify this with "lol scamming". There are already lots of trade-protections making trading between people 99,9% safe. If some big time idiot turns everything off and lets himself being scammed, you aren't obliged to refund anyways. My guess is you just want to reduce service staff even further by implementing a no-brainer feature like "Escrow". Doesn't matter if you make a ton of people unable to trade properly as long as you save some $$$!

Bad idea

This is a ridiculous overcomplication of something which has been increasingly irritating to deal with already, and will prove nigh impossible for those who don't own a smartphone, effectively barring them from trading. This is an astoundingly bad decision, and hopefully we can dissuade Valve from going through with this.

I understand you want to protect your users, but this is too much! Please reconsider this, there ARE good bots like the ones on Scrap.tf. Maybe you could release official Valve bots to trusted steam users/communities? Another idea is to have the user mark prized items and highly prized items! Prized items need email verification like how it is now, removing the prized status from an item makes it untradable for 3 days. Highly prized items can NOT be traded at all. Unmarking a highly prized items requires email verification, sms verification AND locks the item for 7 days. Highly prized items can be hidden from inventory if one chooses too.

Escrow literally kills already half-dead trading

Nobody, I repeat, NOBODY would benefit from that. Sure, it's meant for security, but a drastic change like this would REQUIRE pretty much every trader in the entire Steam community to get a mobile phone to secure that on. Meaning: A harsh disadvantage in trading for anyone who doesn't, or, to be more precise: Too much security for the sake of preventing something that's already VERY rare to even be considered. Case and point, that feature would do virtually nothing else than annoying any trader in the community.
