Valve needs to support sending SMS codes. They also need to support TOTP (time-based app) and U2F (physical USB security key) open authentication methods. I'm more than happy to use SMS, TOTP, and U2F but I will not install the horrible Steam app. Steam isn't entitled to space on my phone for another app when I already have the Google Authenticator app for TOTP which I use on several websites including Google, GitHub, and Dropbox.
