I don't have a smartphone. I had to type my Steam login and password in a foreign program to activate this new level of security, sounds ironic, doesn't it?

Let me say that I do agree that the mobile authenticator is indeed a pain, as a trader who has amassed over $2k in the 2 years that I have been trading. I also agree this is very unfair to non-smartphone users (works on tablets too btw) However I disagree with a key point in your argument. I believe that Valve truly does care about our security, and did not do this to kill off third party websites. Take a look back when valve introduced the 7 day(?) holding on community market. Valve had nothing to gain from this, and in doing so actually promoted third party markets. If Valve truly valued money over security, they would have rolled back this change. This convinces me that Valve forced us into this authenticator for a good reason. You also argue that these markets promote the steam economy. I have to disagree. Many in-game items are valued based on their market value. As more people shift away from the market, the price drops, resulting in items less valuable, which in turn lowers the price on third party sites, causing less people to buy from market, lower prices, ect. Being an avid trader, I do not appreciate my items being valued less that their fair price. Regardless of whatever personal feelings I have, I still agree that the authenticator is very unnecessary, and I thank you for reading.

Why did they ever think this was a good idea? On top of that, why did they think making it MANDATORY for everyone (without having that stupid mobile thing) was an even better idea?
