The HMRC has provided so many jobs for so many EK people
It is a part of East Kilbride. The move to Glasgow would be a huge loss for EK . Save the HMRC in EK

HMRC and it's building and workforce have been an essential fabric of civic life for n East Kilbride for decades. The loss of Centre 1 would be a major blow to the town following the loss of Motorola and Rolls Royce as substantial employers in East Kilbride in recent years.

As a lifelong resident of East Kilbride I have seen the benefit the HMRC office has brought to the town. It is a large, centrally based location with excellent transport links and to move the office to Glasgow which is a 20 minute commute is not only a waste of public money but extremely damaging to the town itself. The government, both local and nationwide, should be supporting places like East Kilbride and not moving massive employers to city centre locations with plenty other opportunities. Many of our other businesses will be dependent on the footfall created by this office and by closing it you are putting the town one step closer to Motherwell, etc ofcthecroom 80s and 90s when the government backed employment was taken away. These places are only now recovering and the damage to some residents life is irreversible.

I am a new employee of HMRC and a move to a regional office in Glasgow would mean a significant increase in travel costs. With annual train fares costing around £1000 I would be left in a very bad financial situation if we are to relocate. Added with the fact that there is a 1% pay rise cap, the cost of living including the increased travel cost would far outweigh any salary increase. I would have to reconsider my employment with HMRC if the move does go ahead.

HMRC should definitely stay in East Kilbride, after all why were they here in the first place - to spread their work around the country.

In 2014 many HMRC employees voted No as they thought that would give them job security! It apparently hasn’t delivered if this goes ahead!

When I was campaigning for Scottish Independence many HMRC members said they were against independence as staying in the union would give them job security!

The loss of 2700 jobs from EK will have a negative impact on our local economy. The UK government's plans to save money by relocating has now been found to cost more, and a re-negotiation of the lease hasn't even been considered. Stay in EK!

East Kilbride has lost enough of it's industry and it tech to other places and since we became south Lanarkshire, EK has been robbed of all that was good in our town by SLC taking all our good tuff away to be their own in Hamilton!!!
