Christian Theology Professors Issue Statement on Trump’s Election

I serve as an Episcopal Deacon and fully support the sentiments expressed in this statement. Thank you for expressing it so eloquently!

I am 79 yrs old and have been a United Methodist all of my life. I grew up in AL during segregation and even then found it to be absolutely wrong. With Trump I am worried we are regressing from the many goals we have achieved to live as Jesus taught us.

This is a wonderful statement of Christian values, except for the Methodist social principles that still support homophobia. You have not overcome your hypocrisy.

We must remain strong in upholding the rights and dignity of everyone.

The most dangerous thing I see happening on the national scene in the United States is the so-called normalizing of the attitudes and actions of Donald Trump and those whom he is choosing as administration insiders and those who seek to impose those precepts on the national identity. Statements such as this are vital first steps in countering this immoral, ungodly trend.

I support this statement of conscience. I also urge we organize community outreach to ensure that we reach those who are in need, the new political refugees from the United States!

If there is another Christian view of this I'd certainly be amazed and would like to hear it! Silence is acquiescence.

We need a president who pulls us together, not one who tears apart relationships among the citizens of the nation and the world.

In most earlier elections, Anonymous’ dismissive comments would be reasonable; not this one. There had been too many unusual and untoward occurrences, ranging from illegal interference by a foreign government, an untimely intervention by the head of the federal law enforcement agency, unlawful freezing out voters, to name but a few items. No longer can we sneer at the politics of third world banana republics because we have joined those entities. No longer can we expect our political leaders to be truthful (it does not matter any more how many lies one tells and continues to tell). No longer does one need to respect others and engage in give-n-takes, indeed, civility is among this election's biggest casualties. So, when teaching the next generation, it may be inappropriate to teach them to respect other people and their thinking, as one should act as one can readily act as the sole arbiter of what is right and wrong and suffer no adverse consequence. I could go on but I think Mr. Anonymous has got my point. My nephew in Australia sent me a statement, which adequately described what happened: On 9/11, the whole world watched in horror as terrorists attacked America. On 11/9, the whole world watched in horror as America attacked itself.

I stand with this statement of concern and pray that Christians everywhere will stand against the evil represented in the behavior of Donald Trump and Mike Pence.
