The only thing I see in this petition about parental rights is "Local control enables parents to exercise their rights". I have hard time giving any control to others, local or otherwise. I want to see a bullet point emphasizing the inherent rights of parents to make educational decisions for their children even if their decisions do not agree with "local control". I like that some emphasis is given to the needs of children, but who determines what those needs are? Parents are the most in touch with what their children need, and value their children the most, so it follows that a minor who is not mature enough to make some decisions need to have some guidance and I want recognition that the ultimate responsibility for children and their education is in the hands of their parents. I don't want a local school board controlling what I can and can't do with my child's education any more than I want the feds controlling me.

It is time we got behind something like this. It is time we laid out a clear plan for education.
