Statement of No Confidence in the Superintendent of the Wachusett Regional School District, by its community members

My grandchildren have been suffering from remote learning and there was no reason they could not have been in school back when all five towns were in the white. Poor decisions one after the other. Now they are closing Jan 4Th the get ready for remote learning. I thought that’s what they have been doing ALL year???

This is a shocking failure to provide education as required by law.

The lack of planning, coordination, and response to the pandemic since The Spring has been disappointing and frustrating compared to the positive actions of other district across the state.

A lack of metrics and a solid plan has led to our children being out of school for over 8 months. A lack of scientific metrics and guidelines has led to decisions based on opinion and feelings. Our children and teachers deserve more!

Dr. McCall has failed our students and our community. It is unacceptable that our students were not given the option to go hybrid in September, especially when one considers over 70% of other MA schools executed a hybrid option in September. Early fall was the ideal time to launch a hybrid option, all experts had predicted that COVID numbers would rise in November. I refuse to accept the argument that our district is somehow so unique that it presents insurmountable obstacles for hybrid to have begun in September. With hard work and strong leadership, a hybrid start in September could have been done, and it could have done safely. However, McCall's work did not yield a successful hybrid execution. At one point, it was decided that WRSD should hire a consultant to develop a plan. Did other districts have consultants? No. Why did our Superintendent need a consultant? McCall's efforts are in stark contrast to other superintendents, who managed to put together a plan for a Sept hybrid start, successfully negotiate with teachers, and effectively communicate a plan with all parties. I do not find evidence to support the notion that Dr. McCall achieved these goals. Some say Dr. McCall has worked hard and that he is a nice person. I don't know Dr. McCall and I don't want to dispute those points. They are not relevant. However, it is true that McCall's efforts did not yield a hybrid plan to launch while COVID numbers were low, it did not yield successful negotiations with teachers, and it certainly did NOT result in communication or transparency with parents, teachers, students, and staff..

The superintendents message closing schools arrived by email before the vote. There has to be something wrong with that.

Time for major changes. Glad we made the call to have my son go to another school where they have been in person

Outdated mgmt tactics, lack of transparency, lack of metrics, inability to interpret State guidance, Union impasse, fixed mindset. A progressive Superintendent is needed.

Darryl McCall needs to be fired. We need a new school committee as well.

If it is too dangerous to learn in a classroom, why does Daryl allow sports teams to continue to play? That does not make any sense. If it is so dangerous the sports must go too.

Please send our kids back to school!!!!!!!

When the Governor and the head of UMass Medical School say it is time to open up the schools it is time. Our school district used to be highly regarded across the state. Now we are a laughing stock. Stop hiding behind Zoom calls and have a school committee meeting on Hal Lane field.
