At State College Spikes games, when the opposing team intentionally walks a player, they get a cheap laugh by showing a movie clip of a character saying, "You throw like a girl!"

This line is meant to be an insult to the pitcher, one that tells all the young girls and women watching the game that the way they throw is a joke. It's insulting, demeaning, and it perpetuates an old, dumb stereotype that women are lesser athletes, physically inferior, and worthy of ridicule when it comes to playing sports.
I think this otherwise family-friendly and youth-oriented minor league team should send ALL young people a POSITIVE message about the athletic capabilities of girls and women.
Mo'ne Davis made Little League history this summer by pitching a shutout game. That's how girls throw! And then there this short documentary that examines the effects of "You throw like a girl": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjJQBjWYDTs.
The Spikes general manager told me they use the clip because it is so famous. He also said they would reconsider the use of this movie clip if other people expressed similar sentiments.
So if YOU feel similarly and would like the Spikes to STOP using the THROW LIKE A GIRL clip, then please sign below!
