The Columbia Public School district is preparing to redistrict students in an effort to relieve overcrowding at schools on the south side of town. This change is expected to affect a large number of students and it is unclear at this time what neighborhoods will be moved from one school to another. What is clear, is the affect that such a drastic change can have on the lives of individual students and their families.

Start 2 Finish is a group organized to make our local school board aware that the families they represent are hopeful that another option will be available to alleviate the stress that these transitions can cause.

There is a national trend toward slow transitions which grandfather ALL students allowing those currently enrolled to graduate without having to transfer schools. If other school districts both large and small can do this, so can Columbia. We love our community and we know that if something is possible, it is possible here.

There are reasons why so many families choose Columbia for their home and we believe the school board has an opportunity with this process to give them another. We hope they will show us that they care about the well being of each an every student in the district. If you are a Columbia resident, please sign this petition, and let the school board know that you support this effort.

Being evicted from your middle school or high school is unacceptable. Kids should be allowed to make the decision to stay at the school they started (and siblings too). There are so many things about this situation that does not have the kids/families best interests at heart.

Because it's time for a better way. It's time to put kids' needs before the district's. Let kids finish high school where they started.

No middle school or high school student should be evicted from their school, activities and friends! Allow them to stay and finish in that school!
