I agree that a start mid-late September makes sense. As long as we can make up for it in June. It is so much cooler in June than September!

I value the time for family during the summer months . Please keep the summer schedule of late September. I agree that this is a better start of school date.

Applying common sense to a matter as intrinsically practical as childhood education seems to be a no-brainer. Was that the original problem?

I am 100% in favor of a later start. Numerous families leave island in August & September solely due to the strong chance of a storm during that time. Our children should not suffer because we are acting out of the abundance of caution.

I am in full agreement of a later school opening.
School starting in September makes absolutely zero sense for our location. It never has, and never will.
There have been so many modifications last year with Covid and homeschooling, I feel this is the perfect time to create a more positive and personalized schedule for the students, parents and teachers of St John. This simple change can be so helpful to everyone involved.
The benefits far outweigh the disadvantages.
A proactive and mindful school/school board, that has the fortitude and insight to make this change, would instill confidence and may attract & gain potential new students as well!
I sincerely hope the positives to school starting in October don’t get overlooked and something changes.

Thank you for the clear reasoning, extracted from decades of life on the island.

I totally agree. Area based schedule is more important that sticking exactly with stateside schedules. 1st weeks of sept is rough to start
