In January, 2010, the Starkville School Board narrowly passed a recommendation from Judy Couey, superintendent, to implement a policy for students and staff to begin wearing uniforms beginning August 2010. In Spring 2009, the Starkville School District conducted a survey requesting feedback on a potential uniform policy. The question, “Are you in favor of the use of school uniforms in Starkville School Districts?” was asked. Of the 1,527 respondents, 67.4% said “No”. Only 25.7% supported uniforms in all grades with the remaining 6.9% supporting uniforms in only some grades. However, the school district considers these results “inconclusive” when discussing the policy at the January meeting.
Petition:
We, the undersigned, wish to declare our opposition to a uniform policy for students and staff of the Starkville School District. The objective of the petition is to indicate that the uniform policy is a controversial issue that warrants further input from the impacted constituents.

The school board continues to ignore the survey results they commissioned because the outcome did not fit their agenda. We are still demanding they explain why they chose to suppress the majority opinion of this district.

The school board is still trying to call our opposition inconclusive while we continue to flood their inboxes with reality. They clearly thought we would just roll over and accept this forced policy but this momentum proves they have completely miscalculated the parents and students of this district.

my daughter hates the polos. they are itchy and dont fit right and we cant afford to keep buying new ones every few months.
THEY IGNORED EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO VOTED NO. THIS ISNT RIGHT
why are we forcing this when public opinion was clearly against it from the start
let the kids wear their own clothes. they already have plenty of stuff that sits in the closet all year long.
its just an extra bill for us. school is hard enough without having to worry about an expensive dress code.
