The proliferation of Starbucks coffee shops has been rapid. Connecticut alone has 50 shops. Yet there are no Starbucks in Connecticut's largest city, Bridgeport. The people of Bridgeport want to simply know..."why?" -Is it false perception that our streets are unsafe? (New Haven is more dangerous) -Is it the perception that our population wouldn't (or couldn't) buy your coffee? (Hartford's residents are more economically challenged.) -Is it because of a failed development proposal along Bridgeport's suburban borders years ago? Starbucks' development stance with regard to Bridgeport is categorically wrong. Sign this petition and let them know that our citizens don't deserve the indignity of Starbuck's redlining practices. Ask them to right this wrong by moving to our densest neighborhood...the East Side. Let Starbucks know that to open over 17,000 stores worldwide while skipping over development in New England's 5th largest city is wrongminded and discriminatory. Remind them that people of color spend millions a year on Starbucks and of their conspicuous absence in Bridgeport. Let Starbucks know that the next Starbucks you will have will be in Bridgeport's East Side and that until then you will discriminate against them as they have against the city of Bridgeport. 3 The people of Bridgeport deserve an explanation. The people of Bridgeport deserve to reap the benefits that other surrounding communities in Connecticut have reaped. Sign and lend your voice to stop Starbucks' redlining development practices today!
