We, the citizens of Starbuck, petition the Starbuck City Council to vote for a city-owned marina.
Because the marina will be located at Lakeshore Park, we feel it should be city-owned.
A city-owned marina will:
- Generate revenue for our city
- Compliment our present marina - not compete
- Provide financial opportunities for ALL local businesses
- Give the city flexibility in the management of the marina
We feel a city-owned marina is what is best for Starbuck.

I honestly did not think so many of us felt the same way about the park marina but seeing the momentum build makes my head spin in the best way possible. It really feels like the city council might actually have to listen to the people for once instead of just doing their own thing behind closed doors.

Why give away the profit to a private individual? We don’t want to be locked into a 30 year lease with someone. We don’t want to sanction competition with our current marina. If the city owns both we can manage them together.
This city is small and the only thing that holds it together is the community coming together . So it's only right to fill the cup that the community drinks from. I grew up here my whole life and have now started my own small business . It wouldn't be possible without the foundation of this town being solid first. This is just an opportunity to help fortify that !
I’m moving to the area this summer and I already feel invested.
We are so proud of our community and hope the council will vote to keep any new marina as a city-owned enterprise as opposed to leasing it to a private business.
I live in Walden township and we frequent Starbuck for errands, groceries, gas, beer, DQ,etc. We have kept a boat at the Starbuck Marina for over ten years. I believe the city option is so much better than the other. I am loyal to Starbuck and it matters to me that you make the right decision.
City owned is what makes financial sense. A 30 year lease to a private business seems absurd and inappropriate to commit future city councils to a lease.
Please take the time to analyze and make the best decision. There was great reason for this which was presented during the Proposals including short term docking, resources already provided by the city for the current marina and more. Do your research please. It appeared that decisions were already made which is not the best approach. Step back and an in-depth analysis and provide the city with actual facts. Dont take the easiest route for the council just to get it done. Thank you

I believe that the citizens of Starbuck hold the rights not private entities to the property and it’s use . once sold it would never return , then the city and its people profit nothing .
