Because Shepherdstown Shares stands against Covid-19, we stand for masks. Because we stand for economic recovery and development, we stand for masks. Because we stand for our area’s residents and workers, we stand for masks. Because we stand for the tourism that provides our town, region, and state with vitality and prosperity, we stand for masks.

We applaud the Corporation of Shepherdstown for for their resolution asking for a mask law. Goldman Sachs estimates that mask mandates across the country could cut disease transmission by nearly two-thirds, save tens of thousands of lives, eliminate the need for more shutdowns, and stave off another 5% fall in GDP. The Eastern Panhandle's tourism industry has been a boon to the entire state, supplying revenue that West Virginia can ill afford to lose. Without a vaccine, masks and physical distance are the only ways to stop this pandemic. Mandating indoor masks is simply not good enough. We urge you, Governor Justice, to save our community by mandating the use of masks in all public spaces.

Updates

July 6, 2020

The persistence of this pandemic continues to place our local businesses and residents at significant risk. I am currently coordinating with community leaders to ensure our call for a comprehensive mask mandate reaches the Governor's office directly. We remain focused on the necessity of these public health measures for the long-term vitality of our town.

Wearing a mask means you are less likely to be a part of community spread. It means we take care of our essential workers. Wearing a mask and practicing social distancing means we can open up Our economy to recovering. It means you won’t be a Typhoid Mary. Don’t be a Typhoid Mary.

Evidence from other countries and research indicates we could end this virus if we all wore masks.
