must put a stop to boaters driving like this , this person took a life, A families daughter , sister , mother , Aunt, friends ,etc . all grieving for their love one bescause of someone that was so careless . This person should be accountable !!

This outrages me, everyone's life matters and no one has the right to take someone's life with NO repercussions! If this were my daughter, friend, mother, cousin, neighbor whatever I would stand up for justice for her. I'll be praying for Megan and her family, and for justice to prevail...

I do not understand the SA's decision to prosecute him under the fairly new and untested DUI boat law rather than the tried and tested Illinois DUI or DWI law. The II. DUI law prohibits operating a vehicle of any kind while DUI or DWI anywhere in the state. This includes on private property. You can not operate a bicycle or a horse drawn cart while DUI or DWI. The SA should explain why the decision was made to prosecute under one law as compared to the other. The reports state that they knew he was DUI. That should have been enough to go for the DUI law of operating a vehicle rather than a boat. What led them to make the decision to prosecute under the boat law. My understanding is that one is a felony and the other is a misdemeanor. I am sure there is a good reason, but I would want a full explanation why one was used rather than the other. There might have been a change in the law in this area.

He needs to be held accountable for his actions, unfortunately it happened in Ogle County where status skews the justice system.
