The Coalition Governments attack on Council funding is damaging Camden’s children's services: two Children’s Centres closed, full-time nursery places halved, all Council run after-school and holiday play schemes cut or privatised, Council Youth Services cut and special needs services cut. The Coalition Government plan to cut funding to Camden’s schools by 10% over the next three years. Schools are making cuts, increasing the staff to student ratio. This will have a lasting effect on our children’s education. We call on the Government to return the £29 million cut from the Council this year and cancel the £54 million cuts planned for the next two. We further call on Camden Councillors, in particular the Labour Councillors, to defend children's services against these cuts. We believe a mass campaign opposing these cuts, involving staff, trade unions and parents, can be built throughout the borough that could defeat these cuts plans. We call on Councillors to be part of this campaign by refusing to implement these cuts.
