Final supporters
The recent changes in parking conditions, especially for "B" spot holders at UCSD La Jolla Thornton Campus have caused significant frustration and deteriorated working conditions for staff. Many have to arrive early to work, some over an hour before their clock-in time just to find parking or face conflicts with other staff over parking spots. Others have to park at distant lots and walk long distances in the dark, compromising their safety. Most importantly the time spent trying to find parking or having to walk to and from these distant lots are extra personal time spent without being compensated. And the recent addition of paid employee valet parking is ridiculous.
Conditions are only expected to worsen with the opening of Jacob's Medical Center and the outpatient pavilion opening in the near future.
Parking permit rates continue to increase and at an approx. cost of $1200/year, employees should be able to park in a favorable environment. This petition, will be presented to the UCSD parking services and the union in efforts to improve these terrible conditions.

There's more parking spaces for "A" staff than "B" staff and it doesn't even fill all the spots! It's not fair that "B" staff can only park in B parking space while "A" staff can park on either A or B parking spaces on other parking structure!!!
It's ridiculous how difficult it is just to come to work and even more so since we have to pay for parking and still get no convenient/safe parking options. Sadly, this would be a significant determinant when choosing whether to stay on in a position at UCSD.
I have been clocking over 15,000 steps on my fitbit since we moved into the new ctri. Although I'm happy to increase my steps (!), the long walks to/from parking, to pharmacy and to the lab are really asking a lot of staff.
There is no parking after 8. I walk in the dark to get to my car. I pay for parking and can't get it. It is a terrible situation. I have already had my car vandalized. I have to leave 2 hours early and still can't park. A miserable situation
I have to walk a long distance to my car often in the dark and I am worried for my safety. UCSD continues to make it easier for the physicians to park (most of them empty spaces) while they take away parking for the hundreds of other employees. We pay $1200 a year and for what?
It is ridiculous that we pay a premium amount of money for a "B" parking pass, come to work, then have to park at a distance because there are not enough designated "B" spaces. When lot 702 closes the shortage will be even greater. The recent conversion of "B" spaces to "A" in the staff structure is a slap in the face of the people who are unable to obtain an "A" pass designation. Many people have been ticketed because at some point they must give up circling for a space and get to work or be late. It is absolutely necessary to allow an extra half an hour prior to my shift for parking or risk being late.
I am a per diem, I pay $8 per day , I waste my gas trying to find a B parking, I arrive at least one hour early. It is frustrating to see a lot of A parking spaces open and I have to drive to the top of Athena! I work at another big hospital and we park for free.

the distant lot "glider port" closes before my shift ends making parking tickets a normal event. I have 3 miles at times to walk in at the start of my shift. public transportation is not suitable for my shift waiting for ride in the dark after 9:45 pm
