I have a son who is autistic along with 2 rare chromosomal mutations. He regressed so much this summer that he had to be hospitalized for 6 days. We tried to enroll him at the Goddard School. We gave them his IEP and our son lasted a few days before we were called to pick him up and We were told they couldn’t accommodate his needs. We have tried hiring behavior therapist to help implement his kindergarten work, but he has to be doing the work in person and not behind a tablet. Please reconsider opening our schools, the amount you are going to have to spend next year on teaching them all that they are behind, but for my son, the longer you wait, the longer you take a chance on getting him up.

Per CDC website (Aug 7) children between the ages of 5-17 have a cumulative Covid hospitalization rate of 6.4 per 100,000 which is 0.0064%. Don't misread that. It isn't .64%. It is 0.0064% chance of getting sick enough to need hospitalization.
Of those children hospitalized, 42.3% had underlying complicating health conditions, most prevalent was obesity (which they classified as being more than 95 percentile of weight/height chart). For non-obese children and those without complicating health issues, the hospitalization rate is nearly half of that insignificant amount (approx 0.004%).
Granted those with different risk profiles may need to opt out but the healthy youth are just NOT in danger.
Flatten the curve they said. We did. Now let’s get on with life.

My child who loved school now is in tears everyday and doesn’t want to do it. Our children are suffering from this. They are NOT learning like they would IN a classroom

Two days after Sam Page wins the Democratic primary (so essentially reelected as county executive) he pressures all public schools into 100% online. That's how you play the reelection game. He might have lost if he took that stance before the primary. Vote him out in November and have the last laugh.

My sister lives in England. Her children have been back to school since May with ZERO issues! Not one single case of student to teacher transmission. Now the cdc has come out and reduced the death toll from 180,00 to NINE thousand???? LET THESE KIDS GO TO SCHOOL! Hire teachers who want to teach. Their job is ESSENTIAL! This online “learning” is NOT educating anyone.

At least considering opening for K-2. Younger children need in person instruction to truly learn. Virtual learning is setting them up for failure

I’m signing this because my nephew who I love and cherish very much, needs special attention and virtual learning is very hard for him! He needs that one one one contact! It’s hard to keep his attention on anything.. Please help these kids that have special needs!

As a teacher in the public school setting we have been able to safely return to school with precautions in place. There is no reason your school can't do the same. Children do not adequately learn in a sole online platform. They need personal interactions and time in the classroom. You are doing a disservice to your students, causing them to fall behind. Extended time out of the classroom will be detrimental to their future. I'm posting this fighting for my nieces who have the right to return to school and the right to the education that is promised to them, one that they won't receive by attending online.
