This is a critical facility for steam in the southwest and if lost there will be far fewer tours and the economy will loose out again. Its not quite a Dawlish wall situationomic benefits that steam brings to the SW will be felt

We need to keep this and put back into service. Mailnline steam is such a feature during the tourist season that the inability to turn locos the sight of a mainline steam train at full chat running the way they were designed and not tender first, risks the additional tourist revenue to the area. Furthermore children today will not have the experience of seeing or being pulled by a main line steam engine doing what it was designed for!!

My understanding is that DBSchenker has leased the yard (including the turntable) from Network Rail. If this is true then, they have an obligation to maintain it in working condition. The steam tour companies have used the facility forr some years now and paid for the use of the yard and turntable. It appears that DBSchenker were content to take the payments, but not prepared to use any of that income to maintain the turntable. If true, then this is unacceptable business behaviour.

Steam trains must bring a lot of revenue into the duchy so why not petition local shops and the tourist board for some money to restore the turntable

Repair the turntable - yes, it's expensive, but it will be superb PR for Network Rail who in any case will benefit from track access charges, while the continuance of steam specials to Cornwall will help the local economy no end.
