The Winter timetabling and the tragic line severance earlier in the year will have reduced the use of the turntable at SBZ but, travelling tender first all the way from Penzance to PLYMOUTH LAIRA TO TURN, will impact SERIOUSLY on the train timings, the mileage available HAULED BY STEAM, and I fear, the pricing AND i FEAR, THE PRICING of trips as well. Aside from the loss of a bit more history, the existence of a turntable that works can, I think, still be a justifiable expenditure.

Steam-hauled excursions are a vital part of the tourist economy in the south-west - and they need this turntable to operate!
Steam trains to the County of Cornwall are very important to the tourist economy of this disadvantaged region and could be more so in the future, given enthusiastic marketing. Removal of the turntable would prevent this potential ever being realised. Those in a position to save the facilitiy have a huge responsibility to ensure the chance to develop this asset is not lost. Whether it be by retaining as part of the National rail system or as a private facility like at Yeovil, this turntable's importance to Cornwall and to rail heritage, trade and public relations is pivotal (sorry, I couldn't resist that pun!))
