St. Augustine Citizens Against Panhandling

Please make St. Augustine safe again. Protect us from panhandlers and vagrants.

Please remove all panhandlers and vagrants from downtown. It is having a negative impact on our city.

Knowing the safety problem, I find it extremely unwise to not have a strong police presence.

I took my son for ice cream at Kilwin’s. We sat outside to enjoy it. It was about 4:00pm. There were so many panhandlers and obvious addicts cruising around we felt very unsafe and left in a hurry. How sad that our downtown doesn’t even feel safe during the day! Stand up for us and keep our city clean and safe!

I am not a resident, but I work in St. Augustine conducting school programs. I feel it is totally unsafe for the school children to have to encounter the filth that lies in the street and on the benches. You can just about consider every one of these field trips gone, if just one child is harmed in any way by these sleaze-bag vagrants. Myself, I used to enjoy visiting the shops on St. George St. Notice the words "used to". I'll spend my money elsewhere, just like many other visitors who get fed up with the vagrant problem.

Do you really want the downfall of St. Augustine to be your legacy?

Enforcement of the law in this country seems to be a problem. It is time to start to demand elected, appointed, officials comply with their oaths of office and enforce the law. We do not need more laws, enforce the ones we have. Since when is defecating, urinating, puking in the streets of America allowed? And then we deny the One Man Band from performing? Have we all lost our collective minds here? Enforce the law St. Augustine. Florida, FDLE, enforce the law.

I work in St Augustine and I also work with the St Augustine Swashbucklers. What has happened to this town is horrendous and needs to be handled with all due haste.

I no longer feel safe downtown. It’s also difficult to find anywhere around town that there isn’t someone shoving their sign in my face, standing at an intersection (all illegally), begging for money. I’ve stopped recommending our city to others as a vacation spot. It’s filthy and disgusting , a health issue and now is embarrassing. We are so saddened and angered by these things and the lack of any one in government taking charge and doing anything that we are hoping to find residence elsewhere. This town has declined quickly and I no longer spend my money in what use to be a quaint, lovely downtown. As tax payers we have less rights than the vagrants. Let's be real here, these are not unfortunate homeless, they are here to make money in a most despicable way.

I work at one of these businesses on St George street. It is getting very unsafe to work here. I've been yelled at, jumped at, cursed and I'm afraid soon I'll be looking elsewhere for employment. It used to be so fun downtown, now anything but.

Please make this happen!

Panhandlers, vagrants & lotering are not good for the residents or tourists in our city.

We retired to St. Augustine because we love this beautiful historic city. However it has been taken over by vagrants and panhandlers who continue to destroy it. You can no longer walk down St. George St. without being approached by them which is a safety issue . The filth they are create and leave behind is disgusting not to mention the concern of disease. Something needs to be done about this situation before it’s too late.

This is becoming a public health issue.

The vagrant panhandlers are taking over the most historical street in America, please do something now to stop this madness!

I hate going downtown, taking my grandchildren, my friends from out of town etc. It's nasty and I love downtown....I moved here because of it! It sickens me now.... bring back the artist! And the sanitary people!

I am tired of watching the city that I love be degraded by this issue. There is WAY MORE that can be done. I demand that the city respect its citizens and take whatever action necessary to fix this.
