Real Food is food which truly nourishes producers, consumers, communities and the earth. It is a food system--from seed to plate--that fundamentally respects human dignity and health, animal welfare, social justice and environmental sustainability.
The Real Food Challenge
(RFC) is the largest national student organization working for a more just and sustainable food system. RFC's primary goal is to shift $1 billion of higher education food spending away from industrial agriculture and junk food and toward healthy, local, fair, and sustainable farms and food businesses. Every year, Real Food Challenge student leaders take action on more than 300 campuses. To date, 25 colleges and universities plus the University of California system have adopted RFC's 20% by 2020 'real food' policy. 150 campuses nationally use the Real Food Calculator to track progress towards their goals.
The Sustainability Committee at SRJC is working to get "real food" on our campus through new food policies. Before we bring our proposition to the Board of Trustees, President, etc., we want to gather student support for the initiative.
Sign this e-petition to show your support! Follow along to see what goals we are meeting, and what exciting new food policies are happening on campus.
