RE: Non-Renewal of Headmaster’s Agreement — Request for Immediate Meeting and Reconsideration
Dear Pastors and Elders,
We write to you as the parent body of Spanish River Christian School, representing families whose children are
currently enrolled and whose tuition commitments for the upcoming school year have already been made. We are
united in our deep concern over the recent announcement that the church has decided not to renew the
Headmaster’s agreement, and we respectfully but firmly request your immediate attention to the matters outlined
below.
1. The Decision Was Made Without Transparency or Parent Input
This decision was communicated to families only after enrollment contracts had been signed and tuition obligations
committed for the next school year. Parents relied on the continuity of the school’s leadership, mission, and direction
when making those financial commitments. Had this change been disclosed prior to enrollment, many families would
have evaluated their options differently. The timing of this announcement, after financial commitments were secured,
raises serious concerns about whether the school’s obligation of good faith to its families has been met.
2. The Headmaster Has Served This Community with Excellence
Mr. Jason Zecca has been the cornerstone of this school’s identity and success. Under his leadership, the school has
had enrollment growth, academic outcomes, spiritual formation, our community has been strengthened. He embodies
the Christian values this institution was founded upon, and his removal without cause or explanation is a disservice to
the families, students, and faculty who have built this community alongside him.
3. The School Board Was Not Meaningfully Consulted
It is our understanding that the school’s board was not involved in this decision in any meaningful capacity. The board
exists to steward the school’s mission and operations, and bypassing it on a matter of this magnitude undermines the
governance structure that parents trust to protect the quality and stability of their children’s education.
4. Our Requests
We respectfully and urgently request the following:
A. Reconsider and renew the Headmaster’s agreement. The parent body overwhelmingly supports Mr. Jason
Zecca’s continued leadership. We ask the church to honor the community’s voice and the Headmaster’s
proven record by reversing this decision.
B. Convene a meeting with the full parent body within ten (10) calendar days. If the church is unwilling to renew
the agreement, we require a transparent, in-person forum where church leadership presents the specific
reasons for this change, the vision and direction for the school going forward, the qualifications and selection
process for new leadership, and a timeline for all transitions.
C. Provide a full tuition refund option for families who choose to withdraw. If the school’s direction is materially
changing from what was represented at the time of enrollment, families must have the opportunity to make
an informed decision about their children’s education — including the option to leave with a complete refund
of all tuition and fees already paid or committed.
5. The Stakes for This Institution
We want to be direct: this school exists because of the families who entrust their children and their resources to it. A
decision of this magnitude, made without transparency, without parent input, and without regard for the school board’s
role, puts the institution’s future at risk. We are committed to this school and to working constructively with church
leadership, but that requires a partnership built on mutual respect and open communication.
We trust that the church shares our commitment to acting in the best interest of the children and families who make
up this community, and we look forward to a prompt and substantive response.
Respectfully and with urgency,
The Parents of Spanish River Christian School
