The San Antonio Spurs are universally recognized as one of the best franchises in professional sports. However they are also known for playing some of the worst music during their home games. The NBA's target demographic is young men from ages 18 to 34. Last night during Game 1 of the 2nd Round playoff series against the Golden State Warriors was a perfect example of the embarrassing music the Spurs organization plays during home games. Such ridiculous songs as Tag Team's "Whoomp There It Is", C&C Music Factory "Everybody Dance Now", and Ricky Martin "Livin La Vida Loca" were all played during the 4th quarter and overtime. Are these songs supposed to energize a team and crowd of mainly 18 to 34 year olds? Songs like that are an embarrassment to the franchise and the fan base and if that is the type of music the Spurs think their fans listen to then they are completely out of touch. I am petitioning for the Spurs to start playing more updated and relevant music during the home games. Specifically I would like to offer my services to the Spurs organization for one game to improve their music selections. My name is Brian Hobbs, I am a festival coordinator with the SXSW music festival, editor-in-chief of ThaFixx.com, and promote successful concerts in the San Antonio area. I am a part of the Spurs fan base and know what the majority of the fans and players listen to and would want to hear during portions of the game where crowd participation and energy are very important. So if you are a fan of the Spurs, the NBA, sports, or good music then your signature would be appreciated on this petition.
