Students were beginning to raise these kinds of issues when I graduated in 2002. SPU has made some great strides but still has farther to go. Let reconciliation and reparations go all the way down!

I identify as an allied woman of privilege and both respect & appreciate the effort and courage that the SPU community is showing by putting together this petition. May the systemic changes deepen & widen for Inclusion & Reconciliation.

I graduated from SPU in 2012 and I rarely saw a variety of races represented on campus. I came from Chief Sealth High School where only 1/5th of the school was considered Caucasian so it was a shock to me to land on this nearly all-white campus. I would love to see the culture being truly engaged at SPU.

It is going to take a great deal of work to even the playing field for groups that until very recently have been marginalized, disenfranchised, segregated, denied the vote, owned as property, lynched, beaten, and raped. Though it does not begin to make repetition for the damage to minority groups, this petition is a tiny step in the right direction, and should be adopted without reservation.
