Seattle Public Schools recently announced a proposed plan to change High School start times from 8:45 to 9:00 and end times from 3:15 to 3:50. This will negatively affect students' extracurricular activities, time available for studying, and other social commitments, all vital to a student's success both in school and outside of their educational experience. By signing this petition you show your opposition to the proposed change.

Please do not make the dismissal time for high schools any latter than it is. It makes things hard enough already. My daughter enjoys after school sports and works part time. She will need to give up both if you adopt this change.

SPS: Since these new times were approved in January has anyone analyzed the afternoon absentee data for High School students? Two sports seasons equals a lot of missed classes for my daughter and sometimes having to choose to miss meets for classes she can't make up!!

The later start time is a terrible idea. I'm a student at RHS and playing footbal we will only have 1:30 hour practices after school and we have to go in at 7 every morning to do morning practice. It's a terrible idea to start later please do not!

this doesn't help anyone. sport teams will have to leave way earlier and you will miss more classes this is just gunna cause more conflict between teachers and students. also some fields don't have lights so where are fall sports teams going to be able to practice?

I am amazed that SPS does not consider after school programs when implementing policies. Pushing back bell times creates problems for athletes in particular who use Parks' fields. The will miss more class time as a result, which is not fair to them.

I totally agree. Getting out at 4 is too late. After practice, commuting home, and dinner, homework would take our kids past a decent bedtime. We also wouldn't have any family time. This would be horrible for my middle schooler and high schooler.

pushing the time later and later doesn't do anything positive.
