I have been in the playground with my children and seen balls land next to the swings.. Not a safe place!!! You could make that softball field into a skate/ bike park for the kids..

Agree with you there. Why not use some of the space of the field to accommodate parking for surrounding facilities and the rest of the space to create a park there for children as well? Theres always ways to improve ideas!

Always good to get something new but you know what... We have a softball field, been used for years , it's very useable. Our kids don't have a good, safe place to use their scooters , skateboards, bikes etc. so why not get a place for them. We have a lot of riders and would love to have a skate park
Don't get me wrong , I'm not saying no to a new softball field I'm saying we need a place for our youth worst .....

I`m not sure when you lived in the area Niki but due to advanced bats and softballs (SPN approved) it causes hits often 300 feet or longer. The ball also has much more pop then wooden and aluminum bats used in the bats and if someone was to be hit by a ball it could be lethal. Thanks for your input!

I grew up next to the field and back then it was actively used. A very exciting place to be! I don't think there were dangers but maybe we were just lucky. I do strongly support the idea though that a new larger field could accommodate tournaments that could potentially bring in teams from all around the province and maybe beyond. This would be not only be an asset to the local economy but also the longevity of the sport in our beautiful town, Springdale.

As a parent, this would help give me a sense of calm. I'm always on edge when my kids are at their sports or in the playground when a men's team or older teenagers are using the field.
It is also clearly too small. The dugouts alone don't make sense. They don't hold the few parents that come out to watch tball, let alone an actual softball team.
As a resident of town, it would also be nice to have a updated field for entertainment purposes as well as bringing revenue to the town.
Seems like a no brained to me

Great idea. I've played ball on this field for years. Seen alot of near misses and broken glass. Also the field could be used for hosting entertainment events aswell as some more parking during summer and winter sporting events.

This field is out dated as well as in a difficult spot being where it is makes it hard to play without being concerned for someone's safety or breaking windows in peoples vehicles or the school

I agree with this! This needs to be done, i was nearly hit serveral times with a flying softball!

Any type of upgrade/ new construction that can be done to a recreational facility is never a bad idea in my opinion . Mostly to benefit the youth in our area.

Towns of similar size, Botwood and Lewisporte, have two fields in a sensible area so they can accommodate tournaments. The Ross Paul Memorial tournament in Botwood raises thousands of dollars a year for local charities and youth scholarships. Representatives from all branches of government in the area recognize the efforts of the Paul family and attend/provide support.
